Shutter curtain came loose mid-wedding shoot, patched it with a coffee stirrer
I was doing a favor for a friend's wedding in Austin last Saturday, shooting with my old Nikon FM2 that I've had since nursing school. Halfway through the ceremony, the shutter started dragging and I could hear that awful squeak. Opened the back and the curtain string had slipped off the pulley. No tools with me, but I dug a plastic coffee stirrer outta my bag, whittled it down with a pocket knife, and used it to wedge the pulley back in place. Got through the rest of the day somehow, maybe 200 shots, but I know it's gonna need a real fix soon. Has anyone done a full curtain string replacement on these older FM bodies? I've only done light cleaning and lens regrease before, so I'm nervous about messing up the tension. Also, is it worth just sending it to a shop for like $150 or trying the parts kit myself first?

I read a forum post where a guy fixed his FM2 the same way, said the tension is tricky but doable.
