Vent: Found a rat's nest inside a customer's attic in Aurora today
I was pulling a new line through a drop ceiling in an old house off Colfax and the whole bundle of cables was chewed through... must have been 50 feet of damaged coax. Homeowner said they heard scratching but figured it was just the pipes. How do you guys handle explaining these biohazard conditions without spooking the customer?

Must have been just the pipes" - yeah, I bet they thought that until they saw my face go pale as a ghost! I usually just say "hey, I found some evidence of furry roommates up there, might want to call a specialist" and let them figure out the rest. Less awkward than explaining I'm basically crawling through a biohazard for a living.

Oh man, that brings back a memory. I was doing a basic router setup in Arvada once and the homeowner mentioned they hadn't seen their cat in three days. Turns out the cat was living in the attic with a whole family of raccoons. Made for an interesting service call when the cat finally came strolling down through the ceiling tiles.
