Showerthought: I used to run coax through walls with just a fish tape and a prayer.

Now I always use a glow rod kit with a magnetic tip, especially for those tricky drops in old houses with fire blocks. The change happened about two years ago after I spent a whole afternoon on a single line in a 1920s bungalow. It just saves so much time and frustration when you can see exactly where the rod is. Anyone have a favorite brand for those magnetic kits, or a different method for tight spaces?

It's funny how a single bad job can make you change your whole method. I got a Klein kit after a similar nightmare in an old plaster house, and that magnet is a lifesaver for finding the rod inside the wall. It just shows that the right tool doesn't just save time, it saves your sanity.

Old school fish tape still gets it done if you know how to work the angles.
