Serious question, why does everyone say to drill through the top plate first
I keep seeing new guys on my crew drill the top plate before checking what's above it, and last Tuesday it cost us 3 hours on a job in Mesa. The homeowner had a gas line running right along the back of that wall, about 2 inches off center, and the bit nicked the insulation. We had to shut everything down, call the gas company, and reschedule the whole install for Friday. I check the attic and the crawl space before I touch anything, no matter how long it takes, because a 10 minute walk through beats sitting on my tail waiting for a utility truck. Does anyone else do the walk through first or am I just slower than everyone on here.
