Dropped $180 on a Klein tone and probe kit and my $35 eBay wand found the pair in 20 seconds
Bought the fancy kit after a rough day of hunting a dead drop in a Richmond apartment building, figured a real tool would save me hours. Turns out the cheap wand beeps on the right pair faster than the probe ever does, at least in old buildings with a ton of crosstalk. So which side are you on, does the expensive kit actually pay off on commercial jobs, or am I just using it wrong?
Cheap wand wins for tone and probe every time in old buildings. The fancy kit only earns its keep on big commercial runs where you need the probe to sniff out one pair in a 200 pair bundle. Crosstalk makes those pricey probes useless in apartments. You're not using it wrong, you just bought the right tool for the wrong job.
