A guy in Phoenix said my 18 inch service loops were wasting his customers' time, and I keep going back to it
I was doing a 6 unit apartment rough in near Camelback last month and the property manager, Dale, hung around watching me coil slack behind each panel. He said his last installer left 18 inches on every drop and the next tech who came out spent two hours cutting and reterminating just to fit the new box. It stuck with me because I always figured extra slack was free insurance, but Dale's point was that nobody ever pulls that slack back out, they just stuff it in the wall and cuss. Now I'm wondering if I should be matching loop length to the box instead of going long every time. How much slack are you all leaving on a standard residential drop?
Dale sounds like the type who complains about everything honestly. 18 inches is nothing, takes two seconds to trim if you need to. Feels like the real problem was the next guy not the slack.
