Swore by a scimitar for breaking down whole hogs until I tried a 10 inch curved bullnose last month
I ran a scimitar for close to nine years and thought nothing could touch it for splitting a whole hog down the spine. Last month my buddy Ray at his shop in Amarillo handed me his 10 inch curved bullnose and told me to just try one hog with it. The curve does the work on the spine so I am not fighting the blade, and I finished the break down about 15 minutes faster with way less shoulder strain. The tip also gets in around the ball joints cleaner than what I was doing with the scimitar, so less meat got chewed up on the hams. I was wrong and I admit it. Anyone else switch off the scimitar, or do you still reach for it on the big animals?
