Hit 96% on-time deliveries after I cut our daily dispatch meeting from 30 minutes to 8
Six months ago our on-time number was stuck at 81% and I could not figure out why. I was running a 30 minute stand-up every morning with my dispatch team of 7, and it felt productive. Then I pulled the calendar data and saw we were burning 2.5 hours a day just talking about the routes instead of loading trucks. So I did an experiment in March: meeting starts at 6:40am, hard stop at 6:48. If your truck is not moving by 6:50, you talk to me one on one, not the whole room. The first two weeks were rough, guys hated it, one driver flat out walked out. But by week 3 our first wave of trucks was rolling 22 minutes earlier on average. Last month we closed at 96% on-time across 1,410 drops out of our Charlotte depot. The wild part is we did it with the same 7 people and the same 11 trucks, zero new spend. Curious if anyone else has tried shrinking their ops meeting and what number you had to cut it to before it actually stuck.
