Tried a 24 hour layover in Reykjavik to save $210 on flights and it backfired
I booked a flight from Boston to Berlin with a 24 hour stop in Iceland because it was $210 cheaper than the direct route. I figured I would sleep in the airport and pocket the savings, but the terminal got so cold overnight that I caved and paid $95 for a guesthouse room at 11pm. Lesson learned: a long layover only saves money if you can actually tough out the wait, and I clearly cannot. Has anyone else done the math on whether these long stopovers are worth it once you add in food and a room?
