I just spent 14 days in Portugal for under $800 total

I tracked every single cost, from my $400 flight to a $12 hostel in Lisbon, and was shocked when I added it all up. What convinced me was skipping sit-down meals and using local buses, which saved hundreds. What's your best trick for keeping a daily food budget low in Europe?

Grocery stores and bakeries are your best friends for cheap eats. You can get a solid lunch of bread, cheese, and fruit for a few euros, way less than a restaurant. It's not glamorous but it keeps you fed and your wallet happy.

My buddy tried that last week, grabbed a baguette, some brie, and an apple from a corner shop. He said it was the best three euro lunch he had in Paris, totally proving @hugo_coleman28's point. He even found a little park to eat it in, said it felt more real than any cafe.
