Hostel in Medellin cost me $11 one night, $38 the next for the same bed
Back in 2019 I stayed at a hostel in El Poblado, Medellin and paid $11 a night for a dorm bed. Same bed, same hostel, same week, but the next night they wanted $38 because a festival rolled into town. I get supply and demand, but the jump felt crazy for a place that wasn't even full. What really got me was the staff just shrugged and said 'that's how the system works now'. These days I always check a city's event calendar before booking anything, even hostels. Found that skipping just one weekend with a big concert or conference can cut my lodging cost in half. Has anyone else watched prices swing that wildly for the same room on back to back nights?

Watched that exact thing happen in Lisbon during a big music fest. Booked a bed for 14 euros, went to extend one more night, and the guy at the desk quoted me 50. I laughed out loud thinking it was a joke. It wasn't. He showed me the screen with different rates for each night, all color coded and everything. Now I pull up festival and conference dates first, then pick my travel days around them. Saved myself probably a few hundred bucks last year just by doing that.
