Appreciation post: The 'skip the meal' airline hack actually worked for me
I flew from Chicago to Denver last month and realized I could save $40 by selecting the 'no meal' option on my budget airline ticket. I packed a sandwich and granola bars in my carry-on instead. The flight was 3 hours, so I didn't even miss the food. Plus I avoided the $8 airport sandwich markup. Has anyone else tried skipping in-flight extras to lower the base fare?

Wait, you actually saved $40 just by saying no to the meal? I thought that was a trap to get you to pay more.
