Just learned my 'budget' projector bulb costs more than the projector itself after 2 years

I was reading through some projector reviews on ProjectorCentral and a stat said most budget bulbs last 3,000 hours before needing a $150 replacement. My Epson cost me $220 total. Did anyone else not realize the bulb could outprice the whole unit over time or am I just late to this?

Yeah that stat's not quite right though. Most of those cheap Epsons use a UHE bulb that's more like $80-$100 if you shop around, not $150. And that 3,000 hour figure is for high brightness mode, if you run it in eco mode you can easily double that lifespan. Still annoying when a bulb costs half what the projector did, but not quite as bad as you're making it sound.

Fair point about eco mode, but doesn't that defeat the purpose of buying a projector for movie nights?
