Hit 100 movies watched in my garage theater last night, and it cost less than a decent TV
Last night my family watched The Iron Giant and it turned out to be movie number 100 in our garage setup since I finished building it in March 2024. The whole thing came in at $680: a used Epson 8350 projector off Facebook Marketplace for $200, a 110 inch screen kit for $90, and eight yards of blackout fabric from Joann for about $60. I celebrated by replacing the one burnt out bulb in my $25 Goodwill receiver, which felt like a silly way to mark the night but it was the last thing on my punch list. What surprised me is that we have used it almost every single week, way more than I expected when I started this project. My kids now invite friends over for movie night instead of asking to go to the theater, which honestly was not the point but I am not complaining. For anyone running a similar cheap projector setup, how are you handling the fan noise during quiet scenes?
