My dried beans would not soften no matter how long I cooked them
I bought a bag of pinto beans for a dollar fifty and tried to make a big pot for the week. I soaked them overnight and cooked them for over four hours, but they were still hard as rocks... I finally found out the water in my area is too hard for beans. I had to add a tiny pinch of baking soda to the pot, and then they softened up in about an hour. Has anyone else had this happen with their tap water?

That part about the water being too hard for beans is so real. It feels like everything is secretly fighting you these days, you know? You buy food, you follow the steps, and some random thing like your own tap water ruins it. Makes you wonder what else we're all doing wrong without even knowing.

Hard water is the worst. I once tried to make beans and ended up with what felt like a pot of tiny, angry pebbles.
