A $1.49 bag of lentils beat my $8 burger habit, found it in a USDA report
Last Tuesday I was scrolling through some food cost data on the USDA website (weird late night rabbit hole, I know). Turns out dry lentils average like $1.49 per pound and give you about 13 grams of protein per half cup cooked. My usual fast food burger costs 5 times that and leaves me hungry an hour later. I tried a simple lentil soup with carrots and onion from my pantry, cost me maybe 80 cents total. Actually felt full for once. Has anyone else found a random stat that made you ditch a pricier staple?

That "leaves me hungry an hour later" part is EXACTLY my problem with fast food. I mean, you pay all that money and then you're staring in the fridge like 45 minutes after you finish. I did the same thing with canned beans last winter. I read somewhere that a can of black beans has like 15 grams of protein for a buck, and I just started throwing them into everything, tacos, salads, even scrambled eggs. My grocery bill honestly dropped a solid 30 bucks a week. And the wild part is I feel way more full after a bean burrito bowl than I ever did after a drive-thru burger. I still grab fast food when I'm in a rush, but it's a treat now, not a habit.
