Showerthought: The old build of my favorite game let me pause online. The new one does not. I timed it.
I finally went back and checked why I bounced off the newer version of a game I loved, and it turns out there was a patch about 18 months ago that quietly killed pausing in online mode. In the old build I could hit the menu button and the world froze for me while everyone else kept moving. That gave me a few seconds to grab water or check on my kid, and it did not hurt anybody. The new build just keeps running in the background, so I came back twice to a death screen and a lost match. I get that devs wanted more tension, but there is a difference between tension and not being able to step away for 20 seconds. Did any of you notice a change like this in a game you used to play, or am I just slow to catch on?
