Old coworker made me dig out my first ever case bindings
Ran into a guy I trained with back in 2004 at a supply shop in Denver last Tuesday. He mentioned he still has one of those early cloth-covered journals I made, the ones with the crooked spines and too much glue. That got me thinking about how I used to trim pages with a straight razor and a ruler, no press, no board shear. Now I have all the fancy equipment in my home studio, but those rough bindings had a kind of energy that my clean work sometimes lacks. Anyone else revisit their old projects and feel like they lost something in the process? What do you do to keep that spark alive?
