Dropped $80 on a leather bookmark set and it fell apart in two weeks.
I bought this fancy hand-tooled leather bookmark set from an Etsy shop for my book club. After just two weeks, the dye started rubbing off on my pages and the stitching came loose. Total waste of money, I should have just stuck with a plain paper one. Has anyone else had bad luck with overpriced book accessories?

Honestly, I wonder if those Etsy shops are just reselling cheap mass produced stuff with a fancy listing. I saw a post where a guy tested the leather and it was just pressed cardboard with a coating. Maybe try a local craft fair instead where you can actually touch the thing before you buy it.

Damn, that's rough. I hate when you think you're supporting a small creator and it turns out to be dropshipped junk. You're right though, local fairs are the way to go if you want quality. Have you had any luck finding actual handmade stuff around town?
