Old foreman's rule about air arc gouging saved my butt today
My first foreman out of the hall, Bill from Local 374, always said never run an air arc over 400 amps no matter what the rod chart says. I thought he was just being old school, so I cranked it to 500 on a thick plate job this morning. Damn thing started digging in and blowing craters, took me 20 extra minutes to grind it clean. He was right, that extra power just makes a mess of the cut. Anyone else got a rule they ignored from an old timer and paid for it?

Heard a guy on here say the same thing about not trusting rod ratings over real world experience, and it stuck with me. Bet that foreman saved you a ton of headache too, some rules are worth the old school vibes.
