Dropped $90 on a cheap welding hood and instantly regretted it

Bought some no-name auto-darkening hood off Amazon for a pipeline job in Odessa. First day out, the lens fogged up and the sensor failed after two hours. Anyone else learned the hard way not to cheap out on PPE?

Ninety bucks isn't cheap PPE, that's mid-range at best. A real cheap hood is like thirty bucks at Harbor Freight. Sounds like you just got a bad one from a random seller, happens with anything on Amazon. The lens fogging is probably from sweat and no anti-fog spray, happens to guys with thousand dollar hoods too. Sensors fail on any electronic hood if you get unlucky, seen it happen with Miller and Jackson stuff. Maybe you should try exchanging it before writing off the whole price point.

Yeah, I kinda disagree - cheap auto hoods have let me down way more than they've ever worked out.
