Talking to a fire marshal made me rethink our whole layout plan
Honestly, I was annoyed at first because our permit got flagged for review last Tuesday in Austin, and the fire marshal came by to check our street closure plan. He pointed at our food truck spot right next to the bounce house and said, 'If that grill catches, kids have one exit and it's blocked.' I never thought about escape routes for a block party, we always just crammed stuff together to fit more fun. He showed me a simple map with 6 foot clear lanes and a spot for the first aid station near the corner, which took maybe 10 minutes to redraw. Now I'm wondering how many other parties I've been to had zero thought for emergencies. Has anyone else dealt with permit folks pushing back on layout, or are we the only ones who got schooled?
