Band booking got way easier once I stopped asking for a phone number first

For our June block party we kept hitting dead ends emailing local bands, nobody responded for like 3 weeks. Then I tried DMing them on Instagram with just the date, pay amount ($150), and a link to our street's photo page from last year. Got 4 replies in one night and booked a blues trio from Astoria. Has anyone else had better luck with social media over traditional contact forms for entertainment?
