My cousin swore I should split the bill on a blind date, and that advice cost me a second date
Honestly I still cringe thinking about this one. My cousin Dana, who has been married for 11 years, gave me this whole speech about how a strong woman always splits the bill on a first date because it keeps things even and shows you are not there for a free meal. So when I met this guy Marcus at a taco place in Austin back in March, I grabbed the check and said we should go half. His face kind of froze for a second and he said sure, that works. We had a decent time, talked for like two hours, and he even walked me to my car. Then he never texted back. Ngl I sat there for a week wondering what went wrong. A friend of mine later pointed out that he probably offered to pay and I jumped in too fast, which made him feel like I was closing a door. Tbh I think Dana's rule works for some people and not others, and I should have just read the room instead of following a script. Has anyone else gotten dating advice from a married friend that totally backfired on them?
Wait his face FROZE and he still walked you to your car? That is wild. I would have been replaying that frozen face in my head the whole two hours honestly.
