Last Tuesday was probably the worst day I've had at the anvil in years

I was working on a set of fire tongs, nothing too crazy, just a basic design I've made maybe 20 times before. But from the start everything felt off, the steel wasn't heating evenly in my forge, I burned my wrist on the third weld, and then I snapped a brand new 1/4 inch punch on a simple drift. By noon I had a pile of scrap and zero usable parts. What really got me was that I kept pushing through instead of just walking away for an hour. I ended up making the same mistake three times because I was too stubborn to stop and let the metal cool. Has anyone else had a day where you just should have quit early but kept making things worse?

Yeah I've had days like that. Sometimes your brain just isn't in it no matter how hard you try. Walking away early would have saved you a lot of trouble.
