I stopped trusting the "next episode in 5 seconds" button and started skipping the recap myself
I noticed my roommate and I were watching the same show completely differently. He lets autoplay run, recaps and all, and I always skip the "previously on" part. We both finished season 4 of a drama over one weekend and he was totally lost during the finale. I started timing it, and those recaps add up to about 11 minutes per season. That's not a huge deal, but here's the real problem. The recaps spoil things by showing you a shot of a character who you forgot was still alive, or a face you haven't seen in 6 episodes. I figured this out when a recap showed a guy in a car crash from season 2, and 20 minutes later that guy showed up out of nowhere. It killed the surprise for me. My roommate says the recaps help him remember stuff because he watches like 6 shows at once. I get that, but for me the whole point is going in blind. Anyone else skip the recaps on purpose, and does it ever backfire when you miss a small detail?
