Took me 3 months to figure out why my chain kept falling off

I got a new bike last fall and for like 3 months my chain would pop off every time I hit a bump. I kept thinking it was a bad derailleur or something. Turns out the guy at the shop who assembled it left the chain way too loose. I tightened it up in 5 minutes and it hasnt done it since. Has anyone else dealt with a shop messing up something simple like that?

Shop guy must've thought chain tension was just a suggestion.

That chain had more slack than a clothesline. What I'm really wondering, @uma_mitchell83, is did they even bother to check the chain guide or the slider before sending it out? Because that kind of loose tension usually tears up the plastic guides first, then starts eating into the swingarm. A buddy of mine had a bike where the chain jumped off at a stop sign and locked the rear wheel up. So was it just a sloppy adjustment or did they miss something else entirely?
