The sweat stat that made me stop carrying a second shirt, and why I think the whole 'cool down' routine is backwards
I read a small study writeup from a university in the Netherlands that said most commuter sweat comes from the last 10 minutes of the ride, not the whole thing, because your core temp keeps climbing even after you ease up. That hit me hard. I was doing the opposite of what works. For years I built in 15 minutes to sit in my office and cool down, and I still showed up damp and gross. Then I started riding the final mile at what felt like a crawl, honestly too slow, like 8 mph, and I stopped needing the second shirt entirely. The weird part is the fast part of my ride feels fine now because I know the slow part is coming. I think the popular advice to 'just ride slower the whole way' is wrong and kind of miserable, because it drags out your commute for no reason. Has anyone else tried backing way off only at the end, and did it actually work for you?
