I thought a rack trunk was unnecessary until my back gave out

For 2 years I carried everything in a backpack. Figured panniers were for tourists or people with too much gear. Then I herniated a disc lifting my bike over a curb in Austin and my PT said the backpack was making it worse. Got an Ortlieb trunk bag 3 months ago and my commute is way less miserable. Anyone else stubborn about upgrading their setup until something forced their hand?

Took me three slipped discs to admit my grocery bag dangling from the handlebars was a bad idea.

Exactly the same thing happened to me @cooper.taylor. First time I just figured it was a one-off and adjusted the bag. Second time I knew better but did it anyway out of laziness. Third time my back locked up for a week and I finally bought a proper cargo basket. Way cheaper than another trip to the chiropractor.
