I finally checked my tire pressure after 6 months of commuting
Turns out I was riding at 40 psi when the sidewall says 70, no wonder I felt like I was pedaling through mud every morning. Has anyone else ignored the basics for way too long and then felt stupid when they fixed it?
50 psi was my magic number for like two years, I just kept topping off to whatever felt hard enough with my thumb. Then my buddy Dave squeezed my rear tire in a parking lot and goes "dude this is soft as hell" and handed me his gauge. I was at 45 on a tire that wanted 65. I used to figure pressure was just one of those things that did not really matter much, you know, close enough. Riding it pumped up right changed my whole ride and made me feel like a dummy at the same time. Now the gauge lives in my bag and I check it every Sunday whether the tire looks fine or not.
