That rattling bottom bracket after 200 miles in the rain made me rebuild everything

Last month I did a century ride near Portland and hit a solid downpour for like 40 miles. Two days later my bottom bracket started this faint grinding noise that got worse by the hour. I pulled the cranks and found water had gotten past the seal and turned the grease into a milky paste. Cleaned it out, repacked with fresh grease, and torqued everything back to spec. Fixed in 30 minutes but now I'm paranoid about every creak. Has anyone else had water get into a sealed cartridge unit that fast?

Man, I always thought sealed bearings were bulletproof until mine did the exact same thing.
