Slipped derailleur hanger on a gravel descent outside Asheville

I was hauling down a rocky section near Bent Creek when the rear derailleur swung into the spokes, snapped the hanger clean, and I ate dirt after 12 miles of riding, so I had to walk 3 miles back to the truck with a chain wrapped around the cassette and now I keep two spare hangers in every saddle bag, anyone else carry backups after one near miss like this?

Was hauling some firewood in the truck last month and my ratchet strap snapped on a slick spot, threw a log right through the tailgate. Now I double up even for short hauls, same deal, one bad trip makes you paranoid in a good way.
