Hot take: cleaning brake rotors with plain hot water and Dawn beats my $18 bottle of rotor cleaner
Had a customer's bike at my stand in Minneapolis last month with brakes that howled so bad you could hear it across the shop. Out of rotor cleaner, I soaked a rag in hot water and a drop of Dawn, wiped the rotor, bedded the pads back in on a hill by Lake Street, and the noise was gone in one ride. I know everyone says you need alcohol or a real cleaner, but this has worked on the last 6 bikes I touched. Which way are you all doing it, and does the Dawn thing hold up long term or am I setting myself up for a comeback?
