Guy at my shop in Akron tried to fix a kid's bike with a hammer and I still think about it
So a dad rolls into the shop two Saturdays ago with his kid's little 20 inch BMX, and the rear wheel is wobbling something awful. Before I can even grab my spoke wrench, this older guy who hangs around the shop sometimes grabs a claw hammer off my bench and says "I got this, you just gotta tap it straight." He starts whacking the rim right in front of the customer. I'm standing there with my coffee going cold just watching this happen. The dad's face went from worried to straight up confused in about two seconds. I finally stepped in and told him we don't fix wheels with hammers, we true them with a stand and a wrench. Took me maybe 15 minutes to get it running straight again. The kicker is the kid was way more calm than either adult in the room. How do you guys handle the regulars who think they know the trade and want to "help" with a customer standing right there?
