PSA: Clipper guards skip sizes and nobody checks, so a #2 is not a #2 in every shop
I got into it with a guy who works two chairs down from me because his "#2 fade" leaves way more hair than mine does. Turns out his guard set jumps from a 1.5 straight to a 3, so what he calls a 2 is actually a 3 on my Wahl guards, and I checked mine against a ruler at home, they run about 1/16 inch off from the label too. This matters because a client who moves between shops in the same town gets two totally different cuts and thinks one of us is lying. I keep a cheap digital caliper in my drawer now and measure any new guard before it touches a head, takes ten seconds. Some guys tell me just learn your own set and eyeball it, that matching numbers across brands is a waste of time. Others say customers do not notice sixteenths of an inch so who cares. Do you match guard numbers with the shop next door or do you just trust the plastic?
