I was dead wrong about thinning shears for over a decade

For like 12 years I refused to touch thinning shears. Thought they were a crutch for guys who couldn't blend with clippers and shears properly. I was that guy in the shop in Austin who would lecture anyone who pulled them out. Then about 6 months ago I had a client with this super thick, coarse Asian hair that wouldn't lay flat no matter what I did. My coworker Dave grabbed his thinning shears and fixed it in 2 minutes. I bought a pair that same week and now I use them on maybe 3 out of 10 clients. Still not my go-to for everything but for certain textures they're honestly the only way to get a clean finish. Has anyone else had a tool or technique they hated for years that turned out to be useful once they learned the right situation for it?

Started using them for texture and realized half my issue was overthinking technique.
