Neighbor insisted chickens need a dirt bath area, thought it was silly till mine got mites
My neighbor Brenda in Austin kept telling me to leave a bare patch under the coop, said dust baths are non negotiable. I ignored her for like 6 months and then found mites crawling on my hens' legs during a check last Tuesday. After I dug out a shallow pit with sand and wood ash, the flock seems way calmer and the mite issue cleared in about 2 weeks. Has anyone else skipped this and paid for it later?
