My neighbor told me I was overfeeding my chickens and I got mad at first

Old man Jerry from two houses down walked over last Tuesday while I was tossing out scratch grains. He said I was giving them way too much and it would make them lazy and fat. I almost laughed him off but then I looked at my hens. They barely scratched around anymore. Just stood by the feeder waiting. He said his grandma only fed hers in the evening so they'd spend all day foraging. I tried it for a week. They're way more active now and I swear the yolks look darker. Has anyone else cut back on feed and seen their flock get healthier?

Disagree, my hens free-range all day and still need morning feed to keep their energy up.
