That map app said 12 miles, it was really 18
Downloaded a popular trail app for a loop in Olympic National Park and trusted its distance reading. Got to the trailhead and found out the route was closed halfway, so I had to backtrack plus take a detour that added 6 extra miles. Does anyone else double-check routes on two different sources before heading out, or am I just being paranoid now?

Man, that stinks! I actually check the park or forest service website before I trust any app now, because trail closures change way faster than apps update. Especially out west, you gotta look for current alerts or even call the ranger station if it's a remote area. Your detour story is a perfect example of why paper maps are still worth carrying too, they show you the official routes and you can pick better bailout points if something goes sideways.
