Map app vs paper map on the JMT, paper won by a mile
Tried following a phone app through Yosemite last August and kept second-guessing switchbacks, then switched to a folded paper map near Red's Meadow and everything just made sense. Anyone else find paper maps easier to follow in the high country, or am I just old fashioned?

Buddy of mine did the same stretch last year, swore by his phone until the battery died on day three near Thousand Island Lake. He pulled out a paper map he'd stuffed in his pack as a backup and said it was like the trail finally clicked for him. Paper just doesn't lie or run out of juice, that's the whole secret.
