I thought the 'easy' river crossing on the Lost Coast Trail would take 20 minutes, not 3 hours.

The tide chart I downloaded was for the wrong station, and we had to wait for the swell to drop before we could safely cross at Sea Lion Gulch.

Sea Lion Gulch is a known trouble spot. The swell there can be unpredictable even with the right tide chart. I've seen groups get pinned down for hours waiting on a window. That whole section demands more respect than the trail notes usually give it.

Totally agree with you on that spot. Watched a group get stuck there last spring and they had to wait almost three hours for the tide to shift. Trail notes make it sound way easier than it actually is.
