A lightning strike at the Knoxville hangar taught me to always check the bond straps on the wingtips
Two summers ago I was doing a routine pitot static check on a King Air 200 in Knoxville when a storm rolled in fast. Lightning hit the ramp maybe 200 feet from the hangar. Plane was fine but the next morning the left nav light was dead and the VOR was reading about 15 degrees off. Turned out the static wick bond strap on that wingtip was corroded under the paint and the strike cooked it the rest of the way. Since then I always pull the wingtip fairings and ohm out every bond strap before I sign off a lightning inspection. Found two more bad ones last month on a Cessna 182 that looked clean from the outside. What do you all use for a pass/fail number on those straps? I have been going off the .0025 ohm rule but I have heard some guys say .001.
