Hot take: the deposit is what tells you if a broker is real, not the quote
I spent two weeks last month getting quotes to move my son's Civic from Phoenix to Portland, and every broker gave me a number within $75 of each other. What actually told me who to trust was how they handled the deposit question. The two cheapest quotes both wanted 100 percent upfront by wire before they would even book the pickup window, and one guy got weirdly pushy when I asked to pay half on pickup. The broker I ended up using asked for $150 down and the rest at delivery, and he sent me the carrier's MC number and insurance certificate without me asking twice. I know a deposit is not proof of anything on its own, but the refusal to take one is a big sign nobody talks about. Has anyone here paid in full upfront and had it go fine, or is that always a red flag?
