Showerthought: a shopping cart at a grocery store in Dallas taught me more about door dings than any video
So I was loading bags into my trunk at a Kroger off Mockingbird Lane about 6 months ago, and this loose cart comes rolling across the lot on its own. It picked up speed on that little slope and smacked right into my rear quarter panel while I stood there with a bag of oranges in each hand. I just watched it happen. The dent itself was small, maybe the size of a quarter, but the paint cracked and that's when I found out bare metal plus Texas humidity equals rust fast. I got a quote for $480 at a shop near me and almost threw up. What really got me was that I had parked way out in the empty part of the lot on purpose, like 12 spots from anyone, thinking I was being smart. Turns out the far spots are where the strays gather because that's where they get abandoned. A guy walking in told me he parks next to the cart return now, said fewer carts travel far enough to reach you. Made no sense to me at the time but I think he might be right. So now I want to hear it from you all, where do you actually park to avoid this stuff? Is next to the cart corral really safer than the empty back row?
