Tried a new clear coat system last month and the results were night and day

I've been using the same mid-grade clear for about five years, mostly because the price was right and it was what the shop supplied. Last month, a buddy in the next town over convinced me to try this higher-end line he swears by. The difference wasn't just a little better, it was huge. The high-end stuff laid down smoother with less orange peel right out of the gun, and it buffed out to a deeper shine with half the effort. I did a hood with the old stuff and a fender with the new on the same car, and you could see the line where the gloss changed. The real test was a black Honda Civic I finished last week; the reflection was like glass. Has anyone else made a switch like that and been shocked at how much easier the final steps became?

Wait you could actually SEE a line where the gloss changed? That's wild. I've heard people say there's a difference but never that it was that obvious side by side. Makes me wonder what I'm missing out on with the cheaper stuff I use.
