Heard a bodyman in Tacoma say something that made me check my primer shelf

I was picking up supplies last Tuesday and this older guy was telling the counter kid he never keeps any primer older than 18 months, even if it looks fine. Said he had a whole job peel on him last summer because the hardener was stale and he didn't catch it. That made me go through my cabinet that night and I tossed three cans that were probably two years old. Anyone else had a batch go bad on them without any obvious signs, or is this just a weird one-off?
