After ruining a hood with a power sander, I only trust hand blocks now.
I was blending paint on a modern sedan. The power sander dug in and created low spots. Going back to a hand block fixed the issue perfectly. It taught me that control matters more than speed. Now I train my apprentices the same way.

Seriously though, that same lesson applies to woodworking and other trades too... power isn't always the answer.

But sometimes you really need that power...

Totally get it. I burned through three drill bits last week trying to force a hole in some old oak. Switched to a hand drill and went slow, and it was perfect.
