A painter with 30 years told me to quit sanding primer to 600 and I'm not sure he's right
Had a guy named Ray stop by the booth last Tuesday. He's been spraying for 30 years and he told me to quit wet sanding primer past 320, said anything finer is wasted time because the base coat will bury it anyway. I've always blocked my primer to 600 before sealer and never had a comeback, but he swears I'm just burning hours for nothing. Part of me thinks he's right, we're not building show cars here, most of this is insurance work in and out the door. Other part of me thinks if a texture or scratch shows through on a black bumper, it's my name on the ticket and not his. So what's the real answer, how far do you guys actually sand your primer before you call it done?
