That week my garbage disposal died and I found out the hard way
Last Tuesday the disposal jammed up with a spoon my kid dropped, and when I tried to reset it the whole thing shorted out. $150 later for a plumber to replace it, I learned to check the breaker before calling anyone.

Wait, a spoon? Like a full sized metal spoon went down the garbage disposal? That's honestly impressive in the worst way lol. I can't believe it didn't just sound like a warzone before it died completely. And $150 for a plumber to swap it out feels like a lot, but I guess you gotta pay for the convenience haha. Good tip on checking the breaker first though, I bet most people (including me) would've just panicked and called someone right away.

I get where you're coming from, but I'm not sure it's that big of a crisis. "Impressive in the worst way" feels a little dramatic to me. In my experience, dropping a spoon down the disposal is annoying but not the end of the world. It might make a racket for a second, but most of the time you can just fish it out with tongs or something. And $150 for a plumber to swap it out? Your mileage may vary, but that sounds pretty standard for a house call, especially if they did the whole job. I bet a lot of disposals are just seized up from junk, not a spoon, and a reset or a quick turn with an Allen wrench would've saved the cash.
