Why does nobody talk about how bad those cheap gutter guards are?
I spent last Saturday cleaning out my gutters for the third time this year and I finally noticed the issue. The guards I put on from Home Depot are actually trapping leaves and pine straw between the guard and the shingle, making everything worse. My neighbor came over and pointed out how water was just running off the edge instead of into the downspout. Has anyone else had this problem with the mesh style gutter covers in the Atlanta area?

My buddy in Kennesaw had mesh guards clog solid in one season.

My buddy Steve put those exact mesh guards on his house in Decatur about two years ago. He kept wondering why his gutters were overflowing during every summer storm. One day he got up on the ladder to check and found a thick mat of wet pine needles stuck to the mesh like a wet blanket. The water had no way to get through so it just ran straight off the edge and soaked his foundation. He spent a whole Saturday pulling the mesh off piece by piece and said it was the worst home improvement decision he ever made. Now he just cleans his gutters the old fashioned way twice a year and says he would never touch those things again.
